Multicultural Arts Initiatives in Montevideo, MN

Kindness Alliances, formerly known as The Cultural Diversity Council of the Upper Minnesota River Valley, began forming in 2011. We started as a group of like-minded theatrical performers and technical assistants to organize a Holiday Season show that featured local artists from diverse heritages. Now, we proudly are the leaders in diversity and multicultural arts initiatives in Montevideo, MN.

The Beginning

In 2011, we showcased various artists from different cultures performing music, songs, dances, and dramas. The positive reactions from our audience encouraged us and helped us build new community relationships, leading us to realize that we had a unique theatrical model to develop further.

Initially, we funded our presentations with our resources, and all participants volunteered their time. From 2011 to 2016, as our model grew, we added new shows throughout the year; however, sustaining our theatrical efforts solely through personal financing became increasingly difficult. Therefore, in 2017, we launched our non-profit performing arts charity.

Events

Since 2017, we have provided numerous performances for various community events and have donated over a ton of non-perishable food through our Holiday Food Drive for local shelves. During the holiday season, we have also organized a Toy Drive, Coats for Families Drive, and Mitten Trees events, as well as monetary contributions to the Salvation Army and Santa Anonymous. Additionally, we support women’s shelters and assist wherever needed during the holidays.

Throughout the rest of the year, we feature events such as veteran and patriotic celebrations, multicultural events, and fine art exhibits.

We are also available throughout the year to assist other organizations with their giving events, in addition to our initiatives. Our annual giving goal includes advising community leaders on their projects and providing any necessary guidance. If needed, we can offer planning advice, talent, show direction, and production support. This approach allows us to bring together like-minded groups in the community to collaborate on philanthropic goals for the future.

Where We Are Now

We continue to open our doors to sponsor charitable events for families facing the burden of high medical costs due to serious illnesses. Our performing arts charity also offers support in emergencies, such as fires or natural disasters like flooding. No matter the case, we take the time to listen to underserved communities and provide them with valuable information and assistance.

Platform

Our non-profit performing arts charity has a multi-cultural and multi-talented Board. Aside from presenting quality entertainment, our goal is to provide a positive platform for constructive bridging while focusing on many of today’s societal issues. We wish to celebrate our differences as a goal to embrace, rather than tear apart.
